Denver

Last week, I had to go to Denver, for a user conference for one of the soft wares I am in charge of. We flew out of Vernal Sunday. Small airport. Smaller plane! This is the little guy...
It's a Beechcraft 1900D. Itty bitty propeller plane. It only had 19 seats on it. 8 rows of one on each side...and 3 across the back. See...
This is the Lady that was traveling with me. Her name is Connie. We also had a man named Glade with us, but he was behind me...so I didn't take his picture.
Anyway....we were supposed to go straight from Vernal to Denver, but something had happened apparently, because we got diverted to Moab, to drop off a few people and pick up a few more. The ride down to Moab was AWFUL!!! It was so bouncy/droppy/skiddy. Ugh! Can you say MOTION SICKNESS!!!! Actually, I didn't get sick, but man my tummy was constantly dropping. The back end of the plane would kind of scoot to the side now and then, like a car fish tailing...that was a new experience for me. Can't say as I liked it much. I was SO happy to be on the ground in Moab. Then we had to get the Denver! HELP!!! But alas, the trip to Denver was much smoother. I think the pilots were able to get the plane a little higher, so the turbulence wasn't quite as bad. Thank heaven.
So the day after we arrived, we walked to the Denver history museum. On the way there, we saw this little guy. He was so polite to pose for me.
Actually, he's pretty big. These little things are pretty funny to watch. I just knew the kids would like to see him...so there he is.
Inside the museum there was tons of stuff. One thing that interested me particularly was the coal mine stuff. Tony's grandpa used to work in a mine. I don't remember what kind....but I'm sure it wasn't coal. But, it still intrigued me to see the stuff they used to use. Here is a coal cart. It's made of wood & metal.
Now....this was the interesting part to me. This big contraption is what they would use to dump the carts of coal. This thing would basically turn the cart over and dump it out, and bring it back up.

A few days before, my kids had been asking about how people used to get around before there were cars. So, I thought I'd take pictures of this buggy & wagon to show them.
So, then we had some classes until about 8 that night. Afterward, we decided to go to a movie. We saw Journey to the Center of the Earth, in 3D! Pretty good show, especially in 3D. I admit it....I screamed. Hey, things were jumping out at me....almost literally. So here the 3 of us are in our snazzy 3D glasses. Yes, I'm a dork...but it was just so funny! (By the way, it's really hard to take a self portrait of yourself with a cell phone camera...and it's even harder when you try to fit 3 people in)
The next night, after classes, we were scheduled to go to a Colorado Rockies baseball game. It was pretty dang fun. Here is the field.
And Connie in front of it.
And me in front of it...again self portrait that was hard to take while getting the background in view. Whew!
Our seats were 18 rows back, just down from first base. Great seats, really. We could see everyone pretty well. There was another guy from our company there, with his family. They caught a foul ball. His little boy was thrilled. So....Batter up!!
While we were sitting there, watching the game (yes I was dancing every time they played music), it started to rain. The drops were HUGE! But they weren't hitting to much, so we sat through it. Then the slushy balls started hitting us. Sleet, I guess you would call it. What a shock to have wet snow pelting at you. We were laughing our heads off. We didn't last long though and went under cover to wait it out. Didn't take long.
After the game, on our walk out, I snapped this shot of the outside of the Stadium, Coors Field.
We didn't really do much the next day. Shopped mostly. Then Thursday, we arrived at the airport at 12:00. Our flight wasn't scheduled to leave until 2:10, but we didn't have anything to do...so we figured we'd wait. Did I mention that I found out on this trip that my driver's license had expired? Yeah, in the Vernal airport, they noticed it. The security guard said that since it was less than a year, I would be okay. They let me pass.....NOT DENVER. They red flagged me. I had to go through a full bag search and tests in security. They put me in this little booth and told me to stand still. "You'll feel some poofs of air, but stand still. " they said. Poofs my foot! More like jets!!! It blew my shirt up...my hair up. Again I screamed. Dang I'm a wimp! I don't think I flashed anyone....I think I caught my shirt fast enough. Wow, what an experience. They tell me that the air knocks tiny particles of you and your clothing. Then the machine in there tests those particles for bombing materials. So, I learned something...bright side right?!?!
So, we made it through security, ate lunch and went to our terminal. We sat down in the waiting area by our terminal....not 10 yards away. We read, and talked and stretched and waited. Again, our flight was scheduled to leave at 2:10. So around 2:00 we hadn't heard anything about our flight. So, we decided to go up and see what was going on. The flight was already GONE!!! They say they called for boarding and made final calls and everything, but if they did...they whispered, cause not one of us heard it. And, we weren't the only ones. There was another guy who had been sitting across from their desk, just waiting, and he never heard it either. So 4 of us were left! We could believe it. I was so MAD! I wanted to get home & see my family dang it! Luckily, there was room on the 7:00 flight later that night. So, they moved us to it. We sat in the airport for 4 1/2 more hours, while our luggage headed on without us. This time we made sure we were up there standing at the desk just after 6:00. So....I finally made it home late that night. What an experience, is all I can say about that!
