School Carnival

Last night was the Carnival at the Elementary School. The kids were so excited to go...of course. Years past, they have had 1 blow up slide and some games that the PTA volunteers man. This years flyer showed all sorts of blow up slides. I told my kids not to get to excited, those were pictures from other places, and may not be at this one. This is what we saw when we arrived....

Spiderman, a shark, a castle and more. No disappointment here. The kids got right to waiting in line.

They decided to start with the shark. Here they are trying to escape from its jaws.

These things are so slippery. You wonder sometimes if they'll make it up. I know I have a hard time. Here they struggle to get up the castle.

Going down is not so hard. WEEEEE!!!!

They had this one ride that was like a parachute. The kid climbed in the chamber and was strapped into a harness which was attached to the top of the chute. The attendant then exited the chamber and zipped it shut. The air started to build and lifted the kids up until it topped out. They hung there for a bit...smiling hugely, and then the attendant unzipped the chamber and the kids sunk to the ground. They loved it. I hope so, because we stood in line for 45 minutes for that one ride!!! Crazy. The first one is Gracie and then TJ...not that you can really see them. LOL

We were so hot by the end of this ride, that we slowed down quite a bit. We had snow cones to cool us off. If you can believe it, the people let the kids put their own syrup on them. So you can imagine the mess! Have a little ice with your syrup.

The kids had a blast! And I enjoyed watching them have a blast. lol

First Day of School

I wasn't ready for it to come, but it did. The first day of school for Gracie & TJ was Monday August 24th. I was sad to see them go back. When you work full time, it doesn't really seem like you get a summer with them. But we had some fun and they were excited to go back. They both had arranged and rearranged their pencil boxes. They had their back packs ready and laid out their clothes. Both were up and ready to go before I could roll out of bed. lol A couple days before, we had gotten them haircuts. They are a couple of cute kids.

Gracie is in Middle School this year. 4th grade! Can you believe it? I can't. She was excited and a little nervous. The door she enters goes straight into her class room. She is really liking her teacher, Mrs. Wall.

When she got in there, Mrs. Wall handed her a riddle she had to figure out, to find her seat. The answers were taped to the desks. Her riddle was, what did the pig do when he performed...or something like that. The answer....He hogged the stage! Ha Look at all those books. As others found their desks, she had a few people right by her that she knew from previous years.

TJ is in 2nd grade, and is still at the elementary school. He was less than thrilled with the picture taking, although he was adamant that I walk in with him. Boys!

We found his desk with ease. And he just wanted to get stuff away so he could go play. lol

They had changed bus routes, so I went to the office to find out what bus they were supposed to take. 991 I was told. So I told TJ and his teacher and I text messaged it to Gracie.

School gets out at 2:50, give or take 5 minutes. The bus usually arrives at our house at 3:20. Well at 3:20 I get a text message from Gracie telling me that I was wrong. It was bus 51. She was on the right bus. Was TJ? NO! Okay....no need to panic. I called the Elementary and told the lady that the bus she gave me was wrong and now I didn't know where my son was. She said she would do some checking and call me back. 20 minutes later...no call. I'm getting more upset by the second of course. So I called them back. Another lady answered and was told to tell me that he would be at the bus garage at 4:00. The first person didn't even call me back when she got the info! Okay, I realize that this is probably every day stuff to them, but not to me!!! I was furious of course, but as long as I was going to get TJ home safely, I wasn't going to make a fuss. The bus, 991, pulled in just as I got out of my SUV. TJ sauntered off and I asked him if he had been on an adventure. He grinned and the bus driver laughed. She said he was fine, just went along for the ride. 3 other kids were on that bus with him. All on the wrong bus. One apparently was crying hysterically. Thank good TJ is so calm and good natured. I was worried he would be scared. Yeah right! All's well. And the kids got the right bus the next day! LOL

Gracie has PE 3 times a week, which is a switch from Elementary. This whole Middle School thing is still strange to me. It's kind of a cross between Elementary and Jr. High. Maybe it will help with transition to Jr. High. She said her first day of school was "GREAT". You can't beat that.

TJ and Tony and an Airplane

TJ and Tony have wanted to try remote control airplanes for a while. They finally went and bought one a couple weeks ago. It's a Cessna. This was it's maiden voyage, if you don't count when they first got it together and Tony accidentally hit the gas and broke the wheel....so we had to order a new part and wait 2 weeks. lol

We failed in getting it off the ground, but still had fun. It even started on fire! What a smell!

UBIC Parade

The first of August was the annual UBIC, Uintah Basin in Celebration, Parade. Gracie was in the parade again this year, with her tumbling class. Here is her float. She is just between the 2 tires, behind the front row.

TJ and I were candy chasers.

This is the float from my work. The UBIC royalty is on it.

Gracie had fun riding the float. After she was done, she watched the rest of the parade with another girl. Some of the participants had water guns, and we all took every opportunity to get wet!
