Magnet Boy...The FINALE!!!

So, Tuesday morning we had to be at Primary Children's at 6:30 in the morning for TJ's demagnetization. TJ was a little nervous, but he held up very well. Here he is in the car just before we got there. Again, the weird things my camera does with the lights. Bizarre! Poor guy was pretty tired, so were we.

Of course Primary Children's is set up well for kids. Here are Tony & TJ sitting in the first waiting room. There were toys and a big fish tank. Tony thought I was embarrassing for taking pictures....thus the look!

After they did their paper work and called us back, he had to change into hospital clothes. He even got to wear pants. WOW! He was pretty excited about the socks. After they took all his vitals, we went to the 2nd waiting room. Here, there were toys and TV and 5 game stations. TJ headed straight for the Nintendo. Spider Man was in the machine. We spent most of the time trying to figure out how to make it work. HA! Never played an X-Box before. When the doctors came, we had to take the remote away, to get him to concentrate.

The Anesthetist came and talked to us about putting him to sleep, and possibly pulling his loose tooth. They figure they're already going in for one foreign object, we don't want to make it two. He told TJ that he was going to breathe some medicine to make him fall asleep, and he got to choose which flavor he wanted. He chose Blueberry, which surprised me. So, the Anesthetist took us away not long after we got there. We went down a couple long halls, and then TJ was told to give us some kisses, and we had to part ways. Tony and I went to waiting room 3. Now, what's up with the parents waiting room? Who says I don't want to play games and color and everything? There was a TV, but that was it. Okay, so I had a book to read and I was fine.
The surgery was supposed to take 1/2 hour. After an hour had passed, Tony started getting nervous. I was wondering if they were having a hard time because it was pretty big and slippery, but who knew. So I went up and asked the lady at the desk there if something was going on. She called down to somewhere, and was told they were just bringing TJ out to recovery. Whew!
Soon the surgeon came in to speak to us. It was as I had suspected. They had a hard time trying to grab it because it was so slippery. The doctor told us they almost had to go find someone who was really good at those games where you have to grab a toy with a claw. LOL So he handed me a cup with a tooth and a magnet. Soon after that, we got a phone call allowing one of us to come to recovery. Only one person is allowed. So I headed down there. TJ was already opening his eyes and moving around. He wanted "this thing out" of his arm...the IV. So, they got him ready to head to a room. Meanwhile, another kid 2 beds over started beeping like crazy and a code 3 went over the screens and such. Doctors swarmed in. I knew they had it under control...everyone was calm. But...I'm so sensitive anymore...I must have looked alarmed. The nurse looked at me and told me it was okay. They are really prepared for this stuff and know exactly what to do. Okay, my eyes are tearing up by now. I'm thinking, the kid is fine, it's not even my kid, and I'm about ready to cry! Am I a boob or what?
So, we headed to a recovery area. Can't call it a room, because it was a huge room with curtains dividing sections off for each bed. Here the little guy is sleeping of the meds.

And here is his dad talking to him after he got there.

Isn't that a sweet picture? That big green thing? That's "green", TJ's dog he got to take into surgery with him. They even put a hospital bracelet on him too, so everyone knew who he was and who he belonged to.
I think we were only in recovery for about 1/2 hour and TJ was drinking little sips of water and started really waking up. He started watching cartoons, and the nurses decided it was time to let him go. They sent him off with a root beer slushy and a nice wheelchair.

We were of course starving, and so was TJ. Tony knew that I had been wanting to go to the Olive Garden, so he wanted to go there. I wasn't sure that we should be taking TJ there, but he was doing so well. He was still sleepy on the way, and when we got there, he needed to go to the bathroom. Once in there, he decided he needed to throw up. After that, we decided we should not stay. So, we went out to the car and decided what we wanted to eat. I went back in and ordered to go. As we were waiting, TJ started playing games and talking animated, like his usual self. We sat in the car and ate. TJ was just like nothing had happened. I was amazed. No way was he totally over this already! I took this picture of the toothless little boy. Goofy kid!
So, we headed home. TJ watched movies and giggled and played his Gameboy and just acted like nothing had happened. Tony and I are of course exhausted. I am SO happy that he recovered so well. Wish I recovered that fast!!!
So, here is the object of all this drama. It was thicker than I even remembered. There is a nickel sitting next to it.

So, that is that. TJ is just fine. He had a tooth for the tooth fairy to come for and a big ol' magnet to show off. When he started coming around, that was the first thing he wanted to see. "Where's my magnet?"
We hope you have all enjoyed the adventures of Magnet Boy. While it has been adventurous, I'm glad it has come to a close. I'm sure many more adventures await us in the future!

My word, the things kids go through. I swear every parent should just be warned when they take their newborn home from the hospital, that many strange and unusual things will occur and to just be prepared for them when they do. It sort of reminds me of when Jade had a polly pocket shoe stuck up her nose for a week and nobody knew, well she finally told someone it was there, but seriously what goes throuh their heads?
